High Protein Yogurt Bowl: The Perfect Decadent and Nutritious Recipe

High Protein Yogurt Bowl: The Perfect Decadent and Nutritious Recipe

I knew I wanted to make something other than eggs and meat (again) when I made the decision to start my day with a delicious and nutritious high protein breakfast option. I wanted a bowl that was rich and satisfying, and colorful. A breakfast dish that exudes the “I wake up at 5am to workout and journal everyday” vibe. With its decadent flavor and smooth and crunchy texture combination, this high-protein yogurt bowl is a great option for breakfast, a quick snack, lunch, or even a light dinner. This will keep you full for hours and it’s so quick to pull together!

The Ingredients

We begin with Ratio Keto yogurt in vanilla flavor as the foundation of our yogurt bowl. This stuff is pure bliss. It tastes better than any yogurt I’ve ever had. With only 3 carbohydrates and 15g of protein, this creamy and thick yogurt offers a substantial protein base for our meal. Next we add some honey, crunchy granola made with ancient grains, and fresh fruits, resulting in a delicious and nutritious  bowl of heavenly goodness. Seriously.

I make this bowl several times a week and mango is the staple fruit for me because of its high fiber content – it’s a fantastic source of both soluble and insoluble fiber. But this bowl is so versatile – make it your own with whatever fruit and berries you have on hand. You really can’t go wrong.

The ingredients I use are below – I cite the brands for the granola and almond mix because I freaking love them and want you to experience this exact bowl in all of its glory, but you can use absolutely any brand of granola you prefer.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Ratio Keto yogurt (vanilla flavor)
  • 1 banana, sliced
  • 1 ripe mango, diced
  • 2 tbsp organic flake coconut
  • 1/2 cup cranberry almond mix from Bakery on Main
  • 1/2 cup Autumn’s Gold grain-free granola
  • 1 tsp organic bee pollen
  • 1 tbsp raw honey

How to Make This Recipe

Making this high protein yogurt bowl is incredibly simple and can be done in just a few minutes. I made it this afternoon for both my husband and myself when I had only 15 minutes between meetings and I often make it for my toddlers in the mornings too. Here’s how you can prepare it:

  1. Prep the Ingredients: I like to get all my ingredients pulled out of the fridge and in front of me so I’m not running back and forth to the fridge and cupboard, opening things with sticky hands mid-process. You will need raw honey, a banana, a ripe mango, organic flake coconut, granola (I love using Bakery on Main’s cranberry almond mix and Autumn’s Gold grain-free granola), Ratio Keto yogurt in vanilla flavor, and a teaspoon of organic bee pollen.
  2. Cut the Mango: If you’ve never cut a mango before, don’t worry! I’ll share the easiest way to do it in a bit.
  3. Assemble the Yogurt Bowl: In a bowl, add one cup of Ratio Keto vanilla yogurt. Slice the banana and mango, and add them on top of the yogurt. Sprinkle two tablespoons of organic flake coconut and half a cup each of your chosen granolas.
  4. Drizzle with Honey and Add Bee Pollen: Drizzle raw honey over the top and finish it off with a teaspoon of organic bee pollen for an extra nutrient boost.
  5. Optional Ingredients: Feel free to add fresh berries, a scoop of chocolate or vanilla protein powder for added protein, or even a handful of nuts or seeds for extra crunch. You could even mix in some collagen or vanilla protein powder to the yogurt for extra pro

The Easiest Way to Cut a Mango

Cutting a mango can seem tricky, but it’s actually quite simple once you know how. Admittedly this took me years to discover – and maybe there’s an even better method out there, but this method of scoring it in two directions and peeling the skin is super effective (albeit messy and sticky).

Instructions For Cutting a Mango

  1. Prepare the Mango:
    • Wash the mango thoroughly under running water.
    • Place the mango on a cutting board.
  2. Score the Mango:
    • Hold the mango upright with the stem end facing down.
    • Using a sharp knife, make a vertical cut down one side of the mango, about 1/4 inch from the center, to avoid the pit. Cut down until you reach the pit.
    • Repeat this process on the opposite side of the mango, creating two large pieces.
    • Now, make similar cuts on the remaining two sides, again about 1/4 inch from the center, resulting in four pieces of mango flesh still attached to the pit.

  3. Peel Back the Skin:
    • Take one of the scored pieces and carefully peel back the skin. You can use your fingers or a knife to lift the edge of the skin and pull it back.
    • Repeat this process for all four pieces. If the skin is difficult to peel, you can use a vegetable peeler to remove it.

  4. Cut the Flesh from the Pit:
    • With the skin peeled back, hold the mango piece firmly and use a knife to cut the flesh away from the pit.
    • Slice the flesh into desired pieces or cubes.
    • Repeat this process for all four pieces of mango.

  5. Removing Remaining Flesh from the Pit:
    • After removing the main pieces, there might still be some flesh attached to the pit. Hold the pit and carefully slice off any remaining mango flesh.
    • Peel and slice this flesh as well.

The Benefits of Bee Pollen

I was recently easily influenced on TikTok about bee pollen and after I purchased a bottle I went and did some research into the benefits and I want to share them with you because I think we’ve been sleeping on this for too long:

  1. Nutrient-Rich Superfood:
    • Bee pollen is packed with essential nutrients, including proteins, amino acids, vitamins (B-complex and C), minerals, enzymes, and antioxidants. This means it’s insanely nutritious and a great supplement for overall health and well-being.
  2. Anti-Inflammatory Properties:
    • Bee pollen has been shown to have strong anti-inflammatory effects, which can help reduce inflammation in the body.
  3. Boosts Immune System:
    • The antimicrobial and antiviral properties of bee pollen can boost your immune system, helping the body to fight off infections and illnesses more effectively.
  4. Energy and Stamina:
    • Due to its high nutrient content, bee pollen can increase energy levels and improve stamina. Apparently it is often used by athletes and individuals looking to enhance physical performance and endurance.
  5. Supports Digestive Health:
    • The enzymes present in bee pollen can aid in digestion by helping to break down food and absorb nutrients more efficiently. This can improve overall digestive health and alleviate issues such as indigestion and bloating.
  6. Allergy Relief:
    • Some studies suggest that bee pollen may help reduce the severity of seasonal allergies. It is thought to work like a natural vaccine by introducing small amounts of pollen into the body, which can help build resistance and reduce allergic reactions over time.
  7. Skin Health:
    • Bee pollen’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties can improve skin health by promoting healing, reducing inflammation, and combating oxidative stress. It is often used in skincare products to enhance complexion and reduce the signs of aging.
  8. Cardiovascular Health:
    • Bee pollen may support heart health by lowering cholesterol levels, reducing blood pressure, and improving blood circulation. The antioxidants in bee pollen help protect the cardiovascular system from oxidative damage.
  9. Hormonal Balance:
    • Bee pollen is believed to help regulate hormonal imbalances and support endocrine health, making it beneficial for conditions like PMS, menopause, and other hormonal-related issues.
  10. Weight Management:
    • Bee pollen can aid in weight management by boosting metabolism and providing a feeling of fullness, which can help reduce overall calorie intake.

Customization Tips

The beauty of yogurt bowls is that they are highly customizable. Here are some ideas to make this recipe your own:

  • Fruits: Swap the banana and mango for other fruits like strawberries, blueberries, or kiwi.
  • Granola: Use your favorite granola mix or try adding nuts and seeds for a different texture.
  • Sweeteners: If you’re watching your sugar intake, you can skip the honey or use a low-calorie sweetener like stevia.
  • Protein Powder: For an extra protein boost, mix in a scoop of your favorite protein powder. Chocolate and vanilla work great with this recipe.
  • Nuts and Seeds: Add a handful of chia seeds, flaxseeds, or your favorite nuts for additional crunch and nutrition.
